JBoss WEB - MSI installer for Windows

With the MSI Installer for Windows we are releasing an ALPHA version of the first JBoss version of Railo Open Source.

This MSI is experimental and we really need your feedback in order to get it as good and reliable as possible. Here are some notes on it:

This installer will

  • install a JBoss service
  • create a management panel on the Desktop
  • prepare IIS for the Railo use so that it can be uninstalled as well


The installer uses the default IIS inetpub location. In order for it to work the webapp base for the cfm hosts need to point to c:/inetpub which implies that every subweb below c:/inetpub will be a web context useable by Railo. Each directory in there gets converted into a JBoss app and therefore a Railo context.

The only manual work one has to do in the IIS Manager is:

  1. Open IIS 7 Manager ( done by the installer )
  2. Navigate to your host.
  3. Double click on the ISAPI and CGI Restrictions icon
  4. On the right hand panel, click "add"
  5. Point the path to your isapi_redirect.dll file and give it a description eg. Tomcat
  6. Check "Allow extension path to execute"

This installer has been tested on on an Ultimate Vista 32 BIT with IIS7.
